Winter Around the World workbook
We’ve launched a winter-themed workbook, just in time for Christmas!
It’s got 7 activities, including:
🦃 Matching traditional Christmas foods to the right country
🕎 Researching different religions and their winter celebrations
🦌 Testing your knowledge of Arctic and Antarctic animals
🧊 Exploring Inuit culture through the ingenious ways they adapted for the cold
⛷️ Competing at Winter Olympics’ through the years
Who is the workbook for?
Parents desperately looking for activities for their kids
Teachers looking for a fun way to reward their students after a tough year
Grandparents looking for a way to bond with the grandkids
Curious kids aged 6-12 who love learning about the world around them
Plus anyone else who’ll enjoy it really - we don’t discriminate based on age!
Here’s a little sample of the activities…
We start by taking a look at different foods that people have for Christmas dinner around the world.
Although this isn’t a Christmas workbook, it’s a really fun way to think about how different cultures celebrate the same holiday all around the world.
This activity involves matching the right meal to the right country - how many do you know?
Did you know that KFC is one of the most popular Christmas day meals in japan?
😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
After that we’re learning about winter animals, both Antarctic and Arctic. This section involves some simple research tasks, because we love research at Deliberate Travel Kids.
Kids answer multiple choice questions about our favourite winter animals. Their answers add up to complete the activity.
🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
Then we’re on to learning about different winter celebrations - it’s not all about Christmas! Together we learn about:
Hanukkah
Kwanzaa
St Lucy’s Day
and plenty more
It’s a great way for kids to appreciate that there are other celebrations besides Christmas and to learn a little about those celebrations.
🕎🕎🕎🕎🕎🕎🕎🕎
Onwards to the Winter Olympics, for all the sports fans in the back.
Before this workbook I never knew the difference between the bobsled, luge and skeleton events. Now I do. Do you really want your kids getting through their lives as ignorant as I was?
⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️
Activity 5 centres on glaciers, the science behind them and the problems associated with their retreat.
We talk about different glaciers around the world, why some glaciers look different to each other and precisely why glacial retreat isn’t great for us.
🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️🏔️
Now it’s time for a little culture - specifically how the Inuit peoples of North America adapted to living in the cold.
Some well-known inventions are of Inuit origin, including kayaks, both parkas and anoraks and muktuk (whale blubber eaten for its Vitamin C content). We make sure to look at Inuit culture in the past and now, so kids get an accurate perspective on contemporary Inuit life.

For our last activity we’re headed to an Ice Hotel for some non-verbal reasoning (yes, we knew you’d see the link).
This activity involves fitting ice blocks into the correct gaps in an Ice Hotel. It’s not terribly “cultural” but non-verbal reasoning is a key skill, and a part of most national curricula, so why not?
If it helps, several adults had trouble with this challenge.

You can read a bit more about how our workbooks work below…
Who exactly are you guys?
We’re Deliberate Travel Kids, we make exciting, informative activity workbooks for kids about countries around the world.
Our workbooks focus on:
Developing crucial research skills for kids
Teaching kids about the world, going beyond basic info and cultural stereotypes
Keeping kids fascinated and engaged through activities, fun facts and general active learning
Allowing kids who don’t respond well to passive learning (sitting quietly, reading) the chance to learn in a way that suits them.
This year we’re setting off on a challenge - learning about 12 different countries in 12 months - with our latest journey Just the Ticket
Each month kids will receive a postcard in the mail from the country we’re currently in, giving them access to the activity workbook for that place.
We’re starting in Iceland and finishing in Brazil.
Kids receive a Travel Pack in the mail at the beginning of their journey with everything they’ll need for the journey, including a passport, stickers, map of our journey and more.
