Why learn about Ukraine?

While there’s currently a war in Ukraine, we want kids to have other associations with Ukraine - not just pictures and stories of war.

Ukraine is a fascinating, dynamic country with a long, complex history, captivating traditions and oodles of delicious foods. Kids should learn about that stuff as well.

We use activities and puzzles to engage and fascinate kids, and teach them about the details of Ukraine. We cover a little bit of history, some basic info, traditions, cuisine and famous Ukrainians.

It’s also important to highlight the ways that Ukrainian culture is unique. There are currently a lot of myths claiming that Russia and Ukraine have a shared history and a unified culture. This workbook is one small way to push back against this narrative, to show that Ukraine has its own vibrant, thriving culture, based on a unique history - much of which was spent fighting off a foreign force.

Is this workbook suitable for my kids?

The workbook is suitable for kids aged 7-12
(although older kids and adults may enjoy it too!)

Although the trigger for this workbook is very clear, we do not talk much about the current situation in Ukraine in this workbook. We have a brief section where we link to child-friendly resources to learn more about the current conflict, but this is additional and not required to complete the workbook.

Although we don’t shy away from talking about difficult histories, we use age-appropriate language throughout to ensure children aren’t distressed by what they learn. If you’d like to double check, we encourage you to skim the workbook yourself first, or drop us an email at info@deliberatetravel.com to discuss any concerns you might have.

Where does the money go?

All the money made from this workbook goes directly to World Central Kitchen in Ukraine. They’re currently providing food for Ukrainians in need at eight border crossings and are supporting local food providers in Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa.

How does it work?

DTK Activity Books use a combination of online and offline activities. When you buy, you’ll get access to the webpage which holds all the activities.

You will need to print a document of 9 pages (or 5 pages double sided) to complete the Activity Book.

It is possible to complete the workbook without the printed sheets but you’ll need some paper and some imagination 😉.

The Activity Book has quizzes, maps, crosswords, non-verbal reasoning activities and logic puzzles, as well as extra information, audio prompts and pop ups to learn extra information.
