The DTK Summer Schools Trial

In September DTK will be coming to schools!

Over the summer we’re running some trials in schools, to see how kids, parents and teachers respond to the materials and the platform.

We want to make DTK the best it can be, for schools, parents and most importantly, curious kids who want to learn about the world.

How does the trial work?

The trial will run for 4 weeks over the summer holidays. During this time teachers, parents and kids will have free access to the DTK Online platform.

Each participating school will receive a link to send to class parents via email, allowing them to sign up to the test platform at no cost. Parents and kids are free to explore the platform as they wish, however they will also receive an email each week with recommendations for which workbook to try plus additional content.

some schools may wish to set their own itineraries/learning journeys as well

There will be a set number of free memberships available per class, to prevent open sharing of the content (i.e. only one email address per family).

Families will be asked to provide feedback at 3 points - at the beginning, middle and end of the process. Children and parents will be asked to provide simple feedback through an online form.

Which workbooks will be available?

The trial will make 6 of our 23 workbooks available. So far, the planned workbooks are:

  • Spain

  • Egypt

  • Viet Nam

  • Australia

  • Mexico (Jumbo workbook)

  • Shakespeare (Special workbook)

These workbooks were chosen to represent a broad geographical range, as well as including some different formats (a Jumbo workbook and a Special workbook).

How does the feedback work?

We want to get as much feedback as possible.

Parents using the platform will be emailed a Google Form to complete at 3 points during the 4 week process.

Every time parents fill in a Google Form they are entered into a draw to win a prize (to be announced in the email).

Parents who complete all 3 feedback rounds will be gifted a 25% discount on DTK memberships.

We hope to run several face-to-face feedback sessions over Zoom with groups of parents as well.

Which schools are eligible?

We are currently in contact with several schools planning to run a trial for us. However if you believe your school would be a good fit for the trial, drop us an email and we can arrange a chat.

Eligible schools meet the following criteria…

  • Teach children aged 6-12

  • Are interested in teaching their students a broad range of topics, and in exploring culture, history, geography and stories in creative, open-minded ways

We are based in the UK but are open to participation by international schools, provided the teaching language is english.

We also ask that a member of staff volunteers to represent the school. This person will be available to answer any concerns from parents, as well as facilitating communication between DTK and the school.

Things to be aware of…

  • DTK is an online platform. Workbooks combine online and printable activities. Therefore participants must have both internet access and access to a printer in order to be able to complete the workbooks.

  • The best thing about being an online platform is that mistakes can be quickly fixed. We endeavour to keep mistakes out of DTK workbooks, but there may still be some. As part of this programme we ask parents and children to email us if they find a mistake, so we can fix it ASAP. This is a part of the trial programme.

  • DTK workbooks aim to develop research skills in children. The answers to activities are not always within the workbooks, but may involve simple research tasks like Googling an answer. Parents and teachers who are not comfortable with this should avoid the workbooks, or supervise any research done.
