There are traditional versions of Indian dancing and more modern versions. One very famous type of dancing is called Bollywood dancing. Bollywood is the name of the film industry in India:

Bollywood = Bombay + Hollywood

Bollywood films are very colourful with lots of singing and dancing. You can watch some in the video on the left.


Although the films of Hollywood may be more well known, Bollywood is the biggest film industry in the whole world. It makes about 1,000 films per year!

Modern Bollywood dancing combines traditional dancing with more modern dancing. Dancers often wear traditional clothes like Sarees or Salwaar Khameez.
