Best resources for teaching kids about Ancient Egypt (free & paid)

There are a lot of resources available for kids about Ancient Egypt - it’s an incredibly popular subject. But sometimes the content can leave a little to be desired. As we’ve said lots of times, lots of content directed for kids is dull, ugly and hard to navigate. Or it’s just the same content as for adults but with a few more pictures.

It can be tough to find engaging educational content. So here’s a selection of links to Ancient Egypt websites, videos and books. Some are paid, but most are free.

Good luck!

A fun, visual website allowing kids to click on different topics to learn more.

The Horrible Histories TV programme has some great Egypt content, including songs about Cleopatra and hieroglyphics, and a Skype chat between Cleo and Marc Antony. Very funny for adults and kids.

Website created by a teacher with extensive information on Ancient Egypt. Not beautiful, but lots of information.

Horrible Histories

Loads of fun STEM themed activities with an Ancient Egypt theme including (!) making fake poop to learn more about the Ancient Egyptians - don’t worry there are more palatable activitties as well.

The content is a little dry but solid lesson plans, mostly linked to artifacts in the Museum.

A site with a concise amount of information, with lots of clicking through to mini-sites. Slightly old fashioned but still charming, clearly designed for kids

Very simple site but fun for younger kids.

Hard to navigate but lots of information, including about Egyptian animals.

Fun, but aimed at younger children.

Series of videos, text and activities – this is the best resource available.
